Vintage Handmade MOLA Cut-work Embroidery by Cuna Indian Artisans in San Blas Islands, Columbia
Found at a local estate sale, this unframed cut-work embroidery, called a MOLA was handmade by the Cuna Indians of the San Blas Islands off the coast of Columbia. A large crested lizard and a much smaller bird are boldly depicted in vivid cotton fabric. The dimensional color shapes of the cut-work & hand sewn embroidery really stands out on the black ground. Molas are made as traditional front and back panels for shirts and blouses.
Dimensions are 14-1/2" x 16-1/2" ( image size 13" x 15"),  weight is 2-1/2 ounces.
Condition is very good as pictured.
This is a GREAT decorative piece to display or add to a collection!
