    Description

When it comes to fossils the words "museum quality" are used way too often.  I believe this split pair of Platanus wyomingensis from Bonanza, Utah, qualifies for use of the term "museum quality".    Taken on their own either half of the fossil would qualify as exceptional.  Typically split pairs have one side that is very nice and the other is dramatically lower quality or useless altogether.  The color and detail on both halves of this fossil are truly stunning. I have spent the better part of 2 decades looking at green river leaves at Tucson and other shows.  In nearly 20 years this is the best fossil sycamore leaf I have seen.  The only fossil leaves I have seen that make a better presentation are the super huge, expensive fossil palm frond plates from the green river formation.  And they cost many thousands of dollars.   This fossil makes a superb side by side display.
The matrix is approx. 9x8.5 inches and 9x8.25 inches respectively.  The leaves are 5.75 and 6.2 inches in length respectively. One plate averages 1 inch thick and the other averages .6 inches thick.  Both halves are solid, no repairs, no restoration and no paint.  All photos were shot with natural light.   Photos exhibit some color differences because I prefer to photograph my fossils under varying outside lighting conditions.  Cloudy days of varying brightness during the session and/or dim/low angle sun are all represented in these photos.
