Sigillaria fossil, Pennsylvanian age 300 million year old

Description

This is a 7" x 6.5" x 3" sized specimen of a Sigillaria which was a plant that grew to treelike proportions during the Pennsylvanian age some 300 million years ago.  This specimen shows the imprint of the interior of the bark of the plant along with some of the radiating lance shaped leaves, all preserved in great detail on a sandy siltstone.  Nicely presented.  While these fossils are common, it is unusual to collect a specimen that shows the character of the plant.  This specimen came from a coal mine in Alabama.
