Rare Childs Flow Blue Pearlware Dinner Set 2pc TureenROYAL LILY
Staffordshire England 1825
This is a tiny miniature dollhouse dinner set covered tureen c1840. Made of earthenware with a brilliant cobalt flow blue swirling pattern similar to Ridgway's Royal Lily and Bluebell patterns, finished with pearlware glaze. The tureen stands 2-1/2 inches tall and measures just 3 inches across with a squash finial and tab handle, scaled from a
very early period of children’s pottery. Well made, to the standards usually only found in full-size Staffordshire table wares, the tiny set is an elegant mixture of formality and whimsy. A perfect start of a set for a doll and toy collector.
The tureen is unmarked. We call it Royal Lily but we don't know if it has an official name. The set was most likely made in the Staffordshire region of England from the period of 1820-1840. The maker is unknown, though the form suggests possibly Hackwood.
The set is in overall good condition with a nibble on one handle, a couple of old worn chips on the inside rim and no other
chips cracks or repairs. A few dots of kiln dust, stilt marks and other typical firing imperfections, original to the making and typical of the period. An outstanding little toy dinner set to display in the finest ceramic collection or dollhouse. The tiny piece is a doll sized work of art, suitable for display and play. Sold as is, as described.
We have also listed other miniature table wares and tea wares along with other great examples of pearlware and other early children's colorful transferwares this week -- mix and match for a lovely collection.
