ntage US Military WW2 Folding Shovel Entrenching Tool
Style:  M1943 Wood Handle  (A Replica of Unknown Origin -- See Below)
    Condition:  Vintage NEW.
This vintage M1943 folding shovel has a wooden shaft and can be fixed in three different positions
    with a hand-turning & locking knob.
    T
he head can be folded along the shaft for carrying in a pack,
placed at 90 degrees for use as a
pick or fixed in the normal shovel position for digging foxholes
and filling sandbags. The M1943 tool
    was superseded by the M1951
    model, which was modified
by adding a pick that was hinged and
attached to the same pivot as the shovel so it too could be
folded out or laid flat for storage.
    Origin:
Owner purchased this folding shovel at an U.S. Army Surplus store 40+ years ago.
It was stored in a closet soon after and forgotten until recently discovered.  Never been used!

oes anyone know why this shovel
is w/o further markings (like the Ames shovel?).
Please let me know by Ebay message!
    Important Note:
    Seller is
    not
knowledgeable about the history of military entrenching tools.
Without clear identifying marks on the shovel,
    I do not
know when or where it was made.
    I only
    determined that this was
    a
    “US
    Military
M1943 folding shovel” by means of a photo on the Internet.
And, since I purchased it 40+ years ago
I tend to believe it is a replica
    manufactured between
    1960 --1980 vs. an original WW2-made shovel.
    Again, if
you have more information on this shovel,
    please use “contact seller” tab
    and kindly inform me.
    Bottomline
If looking for a NEW folding shovel to use
that you can count on, look no further!  Today,
    there
are cheap “Made in China” imports for sale that have copied the US-made shovel &
entrenching tool as well as other US models.  Don't waste your money on inferior quality.
They lack the amazing durability and reliable use of this one!   If you can't afford this NEW
    one,
    my advice
would be to purchase a used one in good condition.
If you are a collector of military items
, you will find lots of USED folding shovels offered
for sale on Ebay.  But, only rarely will you find a M1943 model shovel
    in
    NEW
    condition!
Best grab it while you can!
    To date,
    I have NOT
    found another for sale
    online like it.
