Description

French Childs Stick Spatter Stencil Miniature Plate
CATS CATS CATS
Choisy le Roi ~ Luneville, France c1905
This is a stunning stick spatter stencil ware plate, originally part of a complete miniature children's dinner service. The plate measures about 4-3/4 inches in diameter, with a scalloped rim.
The center of the plate is playfully decorated with a stencil of two cats, one seated and one standing. The border has a 9 cats playing in leaves, a two-color motif of bright yellow and cobalt blue on a creamy faience earthenware blank.
The plate is unmarked except for an impressed 6P. It was made by Choisy le Roi, a faiencerie in Luneville region of France. It dates to c. 1905. Similar in appearance and manufacture to the earthenware sets made in the Staffordshire region of English.
The piece is in great condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Not fine pottery and not intended to be...made for childs play and probably considered disposable when made. Typical making flaws, such as stilt marks, smudges, and light crazing, all minor imperfections original to the making and adding to the authenticity and charm. Sold as is.
Children's sponge ware or stencil ware of this quality is quite scarce and highly sought after. The naive kitten and cat in contrasting colors are simple and striking.  A purrfect gift for the cat lover in your life.
