This is a very collectible plate of plant fossils from the now-closed location at St. Clair, Pennsylvania. The distinct fern fossils are preserved as a thin film of white pyrophyllite on black shale - quite striking! The detail of the fossils is just amazing, and the individual fern fronds are nicely showcased and naturally spaced on the large plate of shale. There are many nice, individual fronds intact of at least two different types of ferns, including a killer textbook Sphenophyllum "flower" branch preserved on the back side!
This is a fabulous, extra large display plate of classic white seed fern and Sphenophyllum fossils from the Coal Regions of Pennsylvania - very impressive!
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS.com is included with this specimen.
