    Description

Brazil, Waiãmpi / Oiampi India, Natural Cotton Baby Sling, Tribal, Amapá, 1992
Up for offer is a sling for carrying babies from the Waiãpi (Oiampi) tribe in the state of Amapá, northern Brazil.  It is made of woven natural cotton and has a circumference of 52” / 132cm. The sling is about
5¾" / 14cm wide at the shoulder and 16½" / 42cm wide at the base. I used this sling to carry my baby daughter when she was an infant.
The Waiãmpi are a small tribe in northern Brazil and French Guyana. I was given this rattle in 1992 by a Brazlian anthropologist who had worked with the tribe in Amapá. At that time, there were about 500 Waiãmpi
