    This is an early Staffordshire dog figurine inkwell and spill vase (or pen holder) made in the 1830s or 1840s.....hand painted features and applied "cabbage" foliage.....tree stump spill vase....small quill pen dip mold under dog...solid bottom.....unmarked....4 1/4"tall....Excellent shiny nice condition with only 2 small hairlines around the lower part of one leg; no other damage. Guaranteed authentic and over 160 years old...this inkwell could have been also a pen holder or spill vase, which were small splinters of wood used to light one's pipe from a fireplace or stove..
